Exploring quirky and funny sculptures in Prague PART 2


In this article we will continue with recommendations on what interesting sculptures and installations you can find in Prague.

 

1) A girl with a paper swallow in her hand sitting on a ledge in the courtyard of Klementinum . The sculpture was installed in 2005 as part of the exhibition of thesis "Ad Clementinum". It was liked so much that it was bought and has remained to this day.

 

 

 

2) This artistic work, called "House of the Son and House of the Mother," near the Faculty of Arts at Charles University stands a unique sculpture dedicated to its former student, Jan Palach, who self-immolated on January 16, 1969, in protest against the Soviet occupation.  The House of the Son, in a light color, represents Jan Palach himself, while the darker House of the Mother symbolizes Palach's desperate mother.

 

 

 

3) Il Commendatore sitting on a pedestal in front of the Estates Theatre is a unique figure sculpted by artist Anna Chromy, named after a character from Mozart's opera Don Giovanni. This striking sculpture bears an eerie resemblance to the Dementors from Harry Potter.

 

 

4) The sculpture of Lilith, a biblical figure symbolizing the first woman before Eve, stands tall in Prague. This 24-meter, 35-ton statue rotates its head 180 degrees every night, portraying the power of human unity.

 

 

5) Franz Kafka's head, a mechanical sculpture by David Černý, graces Prague near Národní třída metro station. Standing at 10.6 meters tall, it comprises 42 independently rotating stainless steel panels, weighing 39 tons.

 

 

6) In the charming lane of Sv. Hubert in Prague, you'll find a captivating installation of red flying deer. These whimsical sculptures bring a touch of enchantment to the city's heart.
